Yes Please
Yes. I know its just a giant iPhone minus the phone.
No. I don't neeeeeeed it. I want it. I really really want it.
Why? Because it's an Apple product and I heart Apple and all things Apple. Obviously, my husband has turned me into a believer.
Besides, its all shiny, pretty and new. It makes Matt and I giggle.
So who loves us enough to buy 2 for us? Anyone? (We've discussed sharing and neither of us feel that is an option if we want to remain married.)
We'll be waiting at the door. Feel free to drop it off any time.

Looking Back Before Looking Foward
(2001) A year later, I had managed to "break the chains" of depression and started living again. After just over 2 years of sleeping, feeling numb and being completely disengaged, I suddenly felt...like I could breathe. (It was weird how it had happened too, like the light switch just flipped on one day.) This year is the year I met Matt. This is the year we moved in together. The year he graduated from college.
(2002) I went back to college. At 30. Enough said.
(2003-2005) My life was completely taken over with studying, tests, books, notes, classes. I was a robot going through the motions of life as a college student. I seem to vaguely recall a few much needed drunken nights after final exams. Matt and I also took our very first big vacation together. We took 8 days in between semesters and visited New Orleans, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. It was what I needed before beginning my final year of school.
(2006) We rang in this New Year with a bunch of friends on a Carnival Cruise to Cozumel, Mexico. I don't remember much of this cruise which tells me I had one fantastic time! In May, much to my surprise and relief, I graduated with my Chemical Engineering degree. After graduating, I fell into a funk again. Not as bad as before, but definitely a funk. I had spent the last 4 years running at such a high level of stress, I didn't know what to do with myself. It took me awhile to learn to relax. Matt and I were also unsure of our relationship at this point. School had taken so much of my time over the past few years we weren't sure if we knew each other any longer.
(2007) Matt and I became engaged. Obviously, we worked on our relationship and decided this was the right decision for us.
(2008) Wow! This was an exciting year FULL of changes and new adventures. In February, I interviewed for a new job in Northern Virginia and was told the same day that I got the job. A week later, I was told I had four weeks to get my stuff together and move up to Virginia. In March, I moved 1000 miles away from my fiance one month before our wedding. (Yeh, just a bit frantic) After several flights home for weekend visits, Matt and I married in April. I came back to Virginia to work one last week before we took off for our 3 1/2 week European Honeymoon where we visited parts of Italy, Greece, Monaco and Turkey. I then left my new husband in Florida, moved in with my friend Sarah, worked and waited until July when Matt moved up so we could finally start our married life together. Whew!
(2009) Another exciting year for me. In early January, we bought our first home. A three story town home just minutes from my job. It needed a bit of elbow grease, but once we were done (in October) it was exactly what we wanted. We renovated the kitchen, laid new carpet, painted every square inch and stained/sealed the deck. Also in January, we found ourselves pregnant with our first child. In May we learned the sex of the baby and in early October, we were proud parents of a 9 pound baby girl. We were also lucky enough to spend one month back home in Florida visiting with family and friends and showing off our daughter before I returned to work.
As this decade draws to a close, and I look back over the past 10 years, there isn't one thing I regret. I have a wonderful husband, a healthy and beautiful baby girl, a nice home, a good job, fantastic friends (both far and near) and a loving family. This decade started off gloomy but I wouldn't change a thing. It has made me stronger and grateful for what I have. I can honestly say I'm beginning a new decade happier than I have ever been. I'm looking forward to the changes and challenges 2010 will bring.
Happy New Year!

SAHD
My first thought was, "How can you say that? This trend hasn't been happening that long."
My second thought was, "Really?"
My third thought was, "Those people are Nuts."
My final thought was, "If it doesn't work for you, make a different decision before you give up on your marriage. Geeeeez!"
I put the article down with the intention to forget it however, it continued to spring into my mind. Today was one of those days that I thought about this article. See, Matt and I have made a similar decision. Though he works, its free lance and he spends most days at home or working from home. He will be the primary caretaker for Stella, and honestly, me with minimal outside care needed. This being said, here's how our week has been so far:
Monday: Matt got up with me in the morning and made my lunch as I am perpetually running late since entering these final weeks of pregnancy and dinner was on the stove when I got home.
Tuesday: Again, Matt made my lunch in the morning, brought my water bottle to me at work (which I forgot, again, I blame the pregnancy), cleaned/vacuumed the house, made dinner in the evening.
Wednesday: Rinse and repeat - my lunch had a homemade chocolate chip cookie in it (Yum!)and the house smelled wonderful when I walked the door this evening
So now I think back to that article and I think, "WHAT? REALLY?!". I don't know how a woman - a professional, educated woman - can not respect a man that can and will take care of her - in a domesticated sense. It makes my head hurt. I love the mess out of him. I have nothing but respect and appreciation for him and I just really really really like him. A lot.
So Honey, I thank you, for taking care of me, keeping track of me and keeping up with the house and cooking. I will try not to be jealous when your attention is diverted, very shortly, from me to Miss Stella. I wouldn't want anyone else in the world taking care of her or us.

*Of course, I can not locate it right now.

Pregnancy Brain
Matt and I were watching Jeopardy the other night as we always do when eating dinner. This answer came up: "This Red Hot Chili Pepper bears the name of the capital of French Guiana".
My immediate thought was "Well, what are the names of some different types of peppers?" This is a reasonable thought considering the answer that was given, correct? I mean it made sense to me at least.
What didn't make any sense whatsoever was the question that my brain came back with: Who is Flea? **
That is the question I came up with - Who. is. Flea.? This was the only response that my pregnant brain could spew. Instead of saying Cayenne or Poblano or Jalepeno or Green or any other pepper, my brain says FLEA!
**(For those of you who have no idea who or what I mean by "Flea", I will explain. There is a popular rock band called The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The bassist for this band is called "Flea".)

Go ahead. Point and laugh. I can take it. However in my defense, I knew it wasn't correct I just couldn't get my brain to switch gears because I am very very pregnant.
Sigh.

Occasional Indulgence
- So far so good in the pregnancy and there's no way to know what or if anything will happen,
- we don't know what next year will bring us (we've always handled this trip on a year by year basis),
- I believe that boys need some time to be boys away from their significant others and
- I enjoy this weekend too.
You see, I get to sleep in the middle of a king size bed by myself, I get unchallenged control of the remote, there's no "we have to do" or "we have to get" and - this is my favorite part - I get to rediscover all my favorite comfort foods.
I can cook and yes, I probably should, but I'm not going to. I'm tired at the end of the day and I just don't feel like it. I won't even mention the fact that I'm completely spoiled with Matt making dinner for me most nights. I can readily admit this.
So, what are my favorite comfort foods? You know what they are - the ones that got you through the first years out on your own, got you through college, the things you grabbed after a night of drinking, the only thing you could afford or knew how to make yourself. Mine were Kraft Mac & Cheese, Totino's party pizza, chicken strips and last but not least, the good ol' PBJ.
Are they good? Debateable.
Are they good for me? Probably not.
Are they still yummy in a nostalgic way? Absolutely!
I love them and look forward to them every year - for just a few days. Because that's all I can handle.
What are your secret comfort foods?

Headlines That Make You Go "Huh?!
GAY PENGUINS BREAK UP
Yup. Apparently this is breaking news.
I kid you not, people. Go check it out yourselves.
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/07/16/bush.gay.penguins.kron
I have ALL sorts of things to say about this.
1. Really? This is CNN news worthy?
2. Wait - this is just plain old news worthy?
3. Who did this reporter anger enough to get this story?
4. Did the reporter just say "switched sides"?
5. Penguin stalking?
6. How do we know they are/were gay? Maybe they were just good friends/room mates until a "lady penguin" became available? (and Pepper lost the coin toss)
7. You've got to feel sorry for Pepper
8. Finally and sadly, you just know some ignorant jerk is going to point to this story and say to their child, "See, if a penguin can change his mind and go straight, you can too. This proves that this is a lifestyle choice." or something equally devastating to a young person struggling to be who they are with parents/family/friends that are unaccepting.
Feel free to share your thoughts on this story.

So We Meet Again
Lets catch up, shall we? I'll start.
1. When we last spoke, Matt and I had just bought a 3-level townhome. I'm happy to say we are darn near fully settled in. Home improvements are nearing completion and have been very time consuming. Yes, I have been taking before and after pictures however...
2. ...my laptop died. My new laptop died. Nope. Not kidding. I've spent a large portion of my free time trying to correct what the VISTA update destroyed with no luck. I've had to ship my laptop off to Gateway to repair it. Needless to say, I've lost all 'pre pictures that were on it. Descriptions will have to suffice.
3. Work keeps my insanely busy. Really. It's a madhouse.
4. Finally, the most shocking and exciting news of all, on January 26th I learned that I am pregnant with our first child. Needless to say, this has put a whole new spin on "got to get the house ready as soon as possible". Obviously, this is including setting up a nursery and gathering baby gear. I'm weary already.
So lets recap - bought house, got pregnant, killed laptop, work is trying to kill me. All in three months. It's got to be some type of record.
So whats new with you? Anything exciting?
Again, I apologize for my extended absence but, I am back and have lots of stories to share - including pictures.

WTF?!?!?! Really?
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/28284679?GT1=43001.
When I showed this to Matt, his statement was - "that's really messed up. Congrats, BK, you've outcreepied yourself again"
I have to agree.
Just ew.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/08/16/egypt.septuplets.birth.ap/index.html
The thought of having 7 newborns makes me nauseous. SEVEN?????!!!!!
That's counting with TWO hands, people.
Matt and I have been talking about starting a family soon.**
I can't imagine what we would think or do if faced with having a large number of newborns.
What are your thoughts?
**This one statement just made both of our Mothers unnaturally happy.

A Brief Visit
Alas, it sucks. Seriously.

Identical?
I just stood there, completely confused, then asked, "Identical"?
Noticing my confused expression, he said, "Yeh. I know, it sounds weird, but she gives me the same facial expressions that he used to give me when we were kids."
Huh. That's something I never would have thought.

Tid-bits #3
So, after a year of planning, preparing and stressing out for a wedding - suddenly it's done. I've come to realize that no one tells you what to do afterwards. How to go back to normal. I've felt like, "What now?" for a month now. I still feel like I should be looking at wedding stuff in the stores, searching websites, making lists and phone calls. I caught Matt looking at wedding stuff the other day too. Suddenly, it's just back to normal life and it feels kind of weird for us. Huh - who knew?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Wedding Night Funny
Matt and I had no intention of being anywhere near sober on our wedding night and I'm happy to announce that is a goal we fully met. As many of you know, we went to our favorite pub after the reception with a few friends and family in a party bus. We drank ourselves silly and hopped back on the bus for the hotel. Matt and his brother wandered off to find food at ridiculous hour o' clock and I found my way to our room. I showered** and plopped into bed. Later, Matt came in and I was woken to giggling. Loud giggling. In my drunken, half awake stupor I asked him what was so blessed funny.
Matt: (giggle) Today, (giggle) you nupted with me. (giggle giggle)
Me: Get into bed and go to sleep, you freak.
Matt: Love you
Me: I love you too.
Us: Sigh..........
**I should mention the number of bobby pins that was holding my hair up. HOLY! I seriously thought I would be standing there for the rest of the night pulling those out. Thanks Karen. I have a "few" extra if you run out and need them back, just call!
------------------------------------------------------------------
Stupid People
I took my car into the shop for a check up and oil change. As I'm still learning the roads here in Northern Virginia, I thought I had gotten lost so I called the dealership for directions. (makes sense, right?) The nice lady answered the phone and said her shpeel that ended in "how may I help you?"
Me: Yes. Hi. I'm trying to find you.
Her: ME?!?! (alarmed and confused)
Me: No.
Her: (confused silence)........
Me: The dealership.
Her: OH!

News and such
Today, Matt and I went apartment hunting and what luck we had! We visited several places that were all perfectly acceptable but, I had to keep searching for the biggest bang for our bucks. We came upon a place that had a couple hundred extra square feet for a bit cheaper and (BONUS!) just a couple of miles from my office. As well all know, this will save quite a few pennies in gas money. We are going to sign a 6 month lease and hope that Matt will find a job soon so that we can house hunt more seriously. I'll let you know how that goes. It will be tight on only my salary but if we watch our pennies carefully, we should make it. (and I'm goooooooood with pennies!)
Also, I've begun (sloooooooooooooowly) to add pictures to our Flickr site. Flickr is kind of like a picture blog. If you look in the left hand side-bar of this blog, you'll see a big blue box with some pictures in it. Click on any picture and it will take you to our picture site. I will, again slooooooooooooowly, be adding pictures from the wedding, honeymoon and our life and adventures moving to and living in Virginia on this site. Feel free to wander through it. I've only just begun to add pictures to this site so there are only a few up. I'll let you know when I've put up a significant amount.
And, if you haven't noticed, this is my second post in as many days. Do you know what that means? Yup. I got my new laptop. Happy girl. Happy happy girl. It's funny. I may not use or even turn on this thing all the time but, not having it at my finger tips is like torture to me. I must really be a technology junkie. Sigh....lets see. I have a chemical engineering degree, I love to read AND I love techie-toys...Yep. Sounds like screaming dweeb to me. Meh. I'm ok with that. Call me what you will, I'm happy.
We also received some very sad news today. Matt's childhood friend, Todd, was in a head-on accident a few days ago. Todd is a close friend of Matt and Adam from their childhood in Minnesota. He's holding on and fighting. Please keep him in your thoughts. His family has set up a website to keep friends and family posted, please visit and send warm fuzzies his way. I'm sure, at this difficult time, he and his family could use all the support they can get.

Good News!
Also, I bought a new laptop so that I can post more often. (and No, I did not pay that much for it, I got it on sale) They had run out of them at the store here so I had Matt check the store in Florida. He bought it down there and is bringing it up with him. I'm such a geek! I'm just as excited about the new computer as I am about seeing Matt again. I love new techie toys! They make me all giggly. Yes, I know it isn't a MAC but it's really all I need. As much as I like MACs, I don't need all that. Matt will be needing one soon enough and we will be a PC/MAC family. One really expensive computer is all we really need.
Finally, the last bit of good news. I received a mini-review from my boss at work yesterday. We have a full-review/bonus every 6 months but, he likes to let us know how we're doing along the way so we're not surprised and have time to turn a possible bad review around. Anyway, I felt all warm and fuzzy. Apparently, I'm doing the right things and I'm on the right track. It was nice to get that kind of feedback so early on. At least I only feel like a train wreck and not actually being one. It's been 3 weeks now that I've actually been doing my job and I'm feeling like I may be "getting it", slowly. I still have a HUGE amount to learn but at least they think I'm getting there.
GO ME!

A Much Needed Update
We're still around, just incredibly busy.
We are working on our next update on the Honeymoon (and possibly final update) which we hope to have up sometime this week.
I am back in Virginia. In fact, I came back 2 days after we got back from Europe and went back to work the day after that. Nothing like hectic. The worst part - Matt came home with some type of stomach virus from Venice (loads of fun on a 16 hour flight) and the day I left for Virginia, guess who had a fever and one heck of a stomach ache. Yep. Me. (Thanks Honey.)
That turned hectic into just plain miserable. In fact, Matt (still not feeling well) had to pack me for my flight back. I just laid in bed and pointed at the laundry he had just done. By the time I landed here, I had no clue what was in the suitcases. I apparently had some sense about me and pointed to most of the right stuff. Thankfully, it never turned into anything ugly, I just had a stomach ache and felt weak for a week. Could have been worse.
As for work, they haven't wasted any time throwing me into the fire. Which, really, is the only real way to get up to speed, if you ask me. I have lots going on and am a bit frustrated with being the new girl - just because I don't know all the processes, procedures and people yet. I'll get there. Thankfully, they know I'm new at this and expect me to have lots of questions and maybe fall a little. I'm looking at this as one fantastic challenge and a good chance to become a valuable team member. So, go ahead guys, throw it at me! BRING IT!
It's Memorial Day weekend and Matt has come up to visit me (YAH!). Sarah's in-laws gave us 4 "fancy" tickets to the Washington Nationals game today and offered to babysit their twins. The 4 of us had a really good time. We had fantastic seats and the tickets even included $35 worth of food/beer and a waiter in our seating area - so we didn't have to get off our lazy duffs to get beer. Woot! Now, I'm not a huge baseball fan but, who am I to turn down a day out with good friends. I can even say I enjoyed the game. I'm glad Matt came up, I've missed him. It's really weird living in two states as a married couple. I can't wait until we finally get settled here.
Besides the next and last honeymoon installation, my posting may be slowed a bit. Not only is work and looking for housing for us keeping me busy, but my laptop died. (moment of silence please) It was a good laptop, and well loved. That poor piece of equipment was dragged around college, work, home, traveling...everywhere. It took a beating and never gave me an ounce of trouble in the four years I had it. I guess it was time. I'm going to look into fixing it, for a short term solution. Buying a new one just isn't in the budget right now and I don't NEED it. I will just miss it terribly.
Oh, and to add a touch of drama to this whole seemingly perfect wedding/honeymoon saga. I got my new Social Security card the other day. Actually, I got two. One in my current name, one in my married name. HUH? NOW I don't know who I am. Sigh. I knew that visit to the SS office went way too smooth. Looks like I'm going to be on the phone tomorrow. Lets all hope they don't make me come back in - that place was not pleasant.
Stay tuned. Matt should be putting up Part 3 of the Honeymoon this week. Enjoy!

Brothers
Anyway, on with the real topic of this post...
My family is extremely important to me and I knew the moment Matt and I decided to get married I wanted all of my siblings involved. So, I asked my three younger brothers to be our Ushers. I’ll introduce them to you now.
Michael, the oldest of the three, will be 24 years old at our wedding. He is 11 years younger than I am. He is quiet, but not exactly shy. He is strong willed, smart and very capable. He is a great father of three handsome boys, Michael Jr.(5), Timothy (2) and Kyle (1).His talent with mechanics absolutely amazes me. From the time he was very young, he was taking things apart and putting them back together. Trying to figure out how it worked. That desire to ‘figure it out’ only intensified as he grew up. As a young teen, he was finding things around the house to fix or put a motor on. I remember he built a working chainsaw from old parts and motors he found around the house. As he moved into his late teens/early twenties, he was taking apart car engines and putting them back together. He’s the guy I call when my car is making that weird noise. He’s worked on all of the cars in the family at least once, probably more.
He is nothing short of a clown. He loves to play, joke and laugh. He’s extremely quick witted and always has a smart remark ready to fly. I’m convinced he could be the next Jim Carrey. Our Mom used to spend a ridiculous amount of time in the deans office at his school because he was always up to something. She used to call me and say, “Guess what your brother did today?” I was scared to ask. He is also the salesman of the family. I swear that boy could sell a bridge over the ocean in Nebraska.
Baron lived in Georgia until recently and every now and then he would get a few days off and decide to drive down for a quick, random visit. Just off the fly. I never know when he’s going to call and tell me he’s an hour away from my house and wants to know if it’s ok if he stops by. I love to be around Baron, his love of life never ceases to amaze me.
At a young age, John took to dancing. I remember, the first time I saw him on stage, I was amazed. He had such a great stage presence. He didn’t look nervous at all, he was completely comfortable up there. He left dancing a year or so ago and is now into karate and every time I check, he’s got a new belt or two.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve watched him quickly grow up and turn into his own person, which is odd for me when I think that he was born 1 month before I graduated high school. What makes it worse is that Matt and I just recently gave him his first car - I’m not old enough to do that and he’s not old enough to drive. Right?
I’m very proud of all my brothers. They’ve all had their own bumps in the road and troubles, but they’ve overcome, learned from it and moved on. They are all very different from each other but they are all wonderful brothers to have. I’ve watched them grow up from boys to men (not to be confused with the boy band) and I couldn’t be more proud to have them as brothers.

Tid-Bits #2
Woman to her Friend: "You gotta hold 'em like you hold an Ox".
My eyes got THIS BIG and I thought, WOW! I heard that all wrong. Then she said it again and it was exactly what I heard. I had to leave the area for fear of demonstration and I was starting to laugh...nervously.
_____________________________________________
Why didn't any of you remind me to shop for dresses for the honeymoon? Huh? I completely forgot about clothes for the honeymoon with all the last minute wedding stuff going on. I'll have to raid Sarah's closet or she will be forced to go frantic shopping with me a few days before the wedding.
Yes, I know I'm leaving for Italy a full week after the wedding. You have obviously not taken into account that I am coming back to Virginia to work my 4 over night shifts then flying back to Florida 1 day before we leave for Italy.
Yes. I will be a very tired little wifey, probably cranky and all bossy too. (Consider yourself warned, Honey!)
_________________________________________
On the clothing note, I've tried on a few jeans/pants that wouldn't button - well not even remotely comfortably anyway - and they FIT! COMFORTABLY!! Somehow, against all odds, I've actually found a diet that is healthy and working. WOOT! I just wish I had found it sooner! O-well, I'll take what I can get!
Now lets just hope Mom has time to take in my dress this much. Last time I tried it on --um two weeks ago -- it was already loose, I know it's even more so now.
__________________________________________
I've noticed that walking the local park trails is fantastic for the ol' back-end. The hills aren't steep but they are a steady looooong incline. By the time I get to the top, my gluteus maximus is begging for a break. I've never had this experience in Florida - it's so flat there.
(SEE! I told you I would try to say something positive about Virginia!)
______________________________________________
I'm packing up to move in to Sarah's house for the next couple of months and I've decided I've brought entirely too many clothes. I normally don't pack this much but how do you decide what/what not to bring when you 1) are going to be living in two different states for several months, 2) are starting a new job and have no idea what to wear 3) don't understand the weather in the new state and 4) have this wedding/honeymoon thing going on.
I don't think I thought this out very well. No, I know I didn't. I was way to frantic trying to get wedding things done and pack.
I'd take some of it back with me, just to be rid of it and not have to drag it around, but it's already here and it's got to be here sooner or later. Right? The bad thing, by the time we come back from Italy, it should be much warmer here (hope, pray, crossing fingers) and I'll have to bring up some Summer clothes.
_______________________________________________
The final countdown has started. I get married in 10 days. Those of you who have known me for years are probably as confused as I am. I swore, absolutely SWORE, I'd never do this. And here I am - getting hitched.
Actually, I remember a conversation in my high school parking lot with Sarah, Jill and Dana (I think). We always knew Dana would be the first to get married, but Sarah said I'd be next since I was so set against it. HA! Out of the 4 of us - I AM the last one standing!

The job is still going well and I'm still liking the night shifts. Yes, I am a freak!

Situated
6. I woke up at 6am last night freezing and very upset that I didn't have my toe warmer with me (aka: Matt). Thank goodness he talked me into bringing "Boyfriend" along.
(Matt bought me this space heater a couple of years ago for Christmas because I am perpetually cold. I told Matt that I didn't need him any longer since I had a new boyfriend that would keep me warm, hence the name, "Boyfriend.")
7. The mall here has a Target and a Wal-mart IN it. The mall has just become my favorite place.
8. I am SPOILED! I miss my big TV and Tivo/DVR. I had to watch TV on this itty-bitty thing that is the size of my (home) microwave and I couldn't rewind or fast-forward through commercials. My head almost exploded last night.
That's it for now. I'll try to remember to bring my camera the next time I go exploring and put up some pretty pictures (as pretty as they can get with my point and shoot). Wish me luck tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll probably be all squirrelly in the head seeing as I haven't had to be up at that hour in a very long time. I see some adjusting in my future. You think?
